What were your favorite books as a child, and why?

Princes? Evil dukes? A fair princess? Magic? Secret Doors? Invisible spies? C'mon, how could any 8-year-old not be entranced. Or a 60-year-old who never grew up, either?

Lord of the Rings. No further comment needed, beyond sheer awesomeness.

The Human Comedy - William Saroyan
Describes the human heart as full of goodness. A world I would love to live in.
