Writer's Block: Pants on Fire?

Is a lie by omission truly a lie?

Unquestionably. The lie is found in the intent to deceive. How it is accomplished is irrelevant.

The Large Print Giveth!

The small print taketh away.

Such is the nature of almost all advertising, all sales pitches, all contracts, all insurance policies... I could go on. You get the idea.

intent would indicate the person 'worked' towards this lie, but omission by its definition means something neglected. i think i agree that it is still a lie, but the deception wasn't intended, and thats what I think the question asker was trying to get at.

to answer, a lie by omission is truly a lie.

but to say you are a liar by that lie of omission is a different story.

you become a liar by using the lie.

but if you don't use it and just witness it, its like witnessing a crime being committed.
do you go to the police to give a detailed sketch of the criminal? or say hey, I saw him stealing from that jerk who stole my parking spot last week at the drive-in theater, screw him. or hey he's stealing from the queen of england, if i catch him (or her) maybe ill be in for some big reward! so it becomes a question of character and morality. so its a lie, okay, but how big a lie? Now were talking about white lies, where is the line? but its drawn in chalk so that it can be continually questioned and rereviewed haha
