Children, never play with gasoline.

Seen from Payson, Utah on Saturday, February 12th, 2011.

I could see the flames from 5 miles away. I drive to the West hills to investigate.

Uh oh, doesn't look good.

House is fully involved.

The next day, we took a Sunday drive to see the aftermath. A 14-year-old kid was using a cup of gasoline to get video of "flame effects" in the back yard. The flames spread to the gas can, and then to the house. 4,221 square feet, 6 bedrooms, 4 baths, $675,000. Total loss.

Hope they had good insurance...

Is insurance valid when idiocy is the cause?

Question: anyone hurt? more important....

Also flame effects - especially with models - are best effected with petroleum jelly? at least that's what they used to use back in the day.

Petroleum jelly/Vaseline and a high camera speed allowing the flames to appear "big"

Exactly what I came to post. "I'm sorry, sir. Your insurance policy does not cover 'random acts of stupid.'"

Of course, really, that's what insurance should be for: something goes unpredictably stupid, you get money for it. But more often, it's like the Two Ronnies described it:

"Look, the way insurance works is that you pay us lots of money."
"And?"
"And that's it!"

One farmer to another: "I've signed up for an insurance policy against fire and hail." - "Hmm, fire I can understand, but how do you do the hail?" * ducks and runs *

Seriously, I'm glad nobody was injured, but I too have doubts that the insurance will cover this.

"Sorry, sir. Hail is considered an 'act of God,' and we do not cover those."

I'm so glad I ratted on some 13-year-old campers playing with fire indoors, even at the cost of already low popularity. No gasoline was involved, and they had an extinguisher on hand, but still.

Ugh. Glad no one was hurt. Still; how awful for them.
