Yard Sale

In preparation for our move, we decided to have a yard sale and offload the things we didn't want to lug around any longer.

We got almost everything out into the carport Thursday night and got signs up, and Friday morning I was ready to go by 8:30.

A few people showed up throughout the day, but for all intents and purposes business was Bupkis mit Kuduchas. I wondered if it was going to have been worth it, but consoled myself that Saturday was the day that people traditionally come out for yard sales.

Pulled it all back under the carport and covered it up for the night.

Saturday morning, the onslaught started well before 8, and even before I had everything set out. Some folks really want to get the best stuff available. By 2:00, the rush was mostly over, and we had moved a good lot of stuff - tables, beds, sewing machines, a turntable, a basketball hoop, a treadmill, a trampoline, weights, kitchen appliances, pans and whatnot, and all sorts of odds and ends.

ToniAnne's daughter Katie suggested we call the members of the Spanish branch of our Church before hauling stuff to Goodwill - a great idea, so we did so. At about 6, the spanish Elders showed up with about 5 cars in tow, and the families carted off about half of what was left - I can tell they appreciated the things they found.

Today we told the members of our Church that they were welcome to come and scavenge what was left, and by the time they were gone, almost everything left over for Goodwill fit into ToniAnne's car. We made a bit of money, helped a lot of people, and saved ourselves a load of work.

I love yard/boot sales. One man's tat is another mans dust harbourer.

I have to stay away from them as a general rule. I collect more stuff than I need, just because it's cool.

Agreed with Alaskawolf!

My mother and I used to indulge in yardsale hopping. A few times, I've found stuff that was practically new that made great presents.

Is "Anciano" a nickname? Because it'd be weird to name a baby "Ancient."

"Elder" is the title given to all missionaries, as that is their priesthood office.
