Unusual Spam: Redux

Apparently the raft of spam I mentioned in my last post is an attempt by an internet troll to get my goat - he or she or it [subsequently referred to as (s)he-it] has moved from posting annoying drivel on the webcomic forum that I frequent, to individual attacks on various members. This is legally actionable, if only there were a way to identify the wretched loser.

Today I received an email from a clairvoyant that - instead of offending me - gave me a good laugh to start the day. You can see it here. Apparently (s)he-it signed me up for a bunch of different nonsense using sophomoric names. The result was, in this case, excruciatingly funny.

I can only hope that at some point karma pays this pathetic waste of human cytoplasm back for the negativce energy (s)he-it is pumping into the universe.

There's a reason I generate a new email address for every sign-up I make. Much simpler to track down the starting point of SPAM (and to identify which companies never to deal with again).

Do you have a process for making new email address generation a painless thing?

It's easiest if you own a domain name and have control of a server.

The method I currently use requires the right kind of domain hosting that allows you to create infinite email addresses on your own domain. As I'm running my own server, this is a piece of cake, but it should be possible with some commercial hosts.

Another method is to use a service like SneakEmail. Costs $2 per month, but I used it for years before I got my own mail server.

A third method is to use a little known GMail suffix feature.

Gmail Suffix Feature looks like my answer for now. Many thanks!

I only ever sign up to things with my long suffering hotmail account. If it's in hotmail it's spam and I wipe the whole thing ruthlessly once a week. I don't even look at them unless it's a private message or something obvious.

You may be an old wolf, but you are not an old fart.
