Sheep. Ramps. Friendship. Scrabble.

It doesn't get any better than this.

ToniAnne and I took a jaunt down to the Magpie House in Gap Mills, WV - arrived just before lunch and had a brief tour of the farm where I have spent many delightful - (if not idyllic, given the quantity of mud, HellPigeons and mucking out that I dealt with) - weeks. Our gracious hosts, the Scott & Kathy Kellogg (both webcomic authors), treated us to a ramp dinner sponsored by the Hometown and Peterstown Ruitan Club. Ramps are wild leeks from hell. Cooked, they're quite innocuous. Raw, they have a bite that gets hotter with time. Savory! Luscious!

Here's the menu:

My plate:

From top left, clockwise - Ramp casserole, ham, fried ramps, beans, taters, corn, and ramp salad above.

Here's ToniAnne with the Kelloggs:

After lunch, we returned to the farm and decided to hold off the sleepiness with a round of Scrabble™, after which we retired for the night. Toni slept in the Princess Bedroom (you'd have to have seen it), and I on a very comfortable couch, which was visited deep in the night by Honey:

She's a giant chihuahua with the ability to occupy 47 times her volume in bed space. The night was full of the sounds of rain, thunder, chiming clocks, scrabbling mice, and of course, Honey - but I still slept well.

The next morning we attended church in White Sulphur Springs and saw some acquaintances, and then trundled home, stopping to admire the Coal House on the way.

The visit was all too brief, but wonderful just the same. Our deepest thanks to the Kelloggs for a delightful visit!

This evening I got the lawn mowed and enjoyed a succulent prime rib roast for dinner. ToniAnne's mom leaves for Maine on Tuesday, so we're busy doing what needs to be done before they go.

Not too much I can add to alaskaworlf's comment, save for I know what it's like to be crowded out of bed by pets.
(though the dog doesn't do it much any more, the cats seem to have picked up where she left off...)

Nice to have a picture of Honey, who sounds very endearing.
