Writer's Block: Best book ever!

Is there any book you can read over and over again without ever getting sick of it? Do you discover something new every time you read it?

That would have to be Lord of the Rings. I usually read it once a year, at least. It's just such an amazing work. The more I read it, the more I tend to appreciate the poetry and the linguistic finesse Tolkien used.

I answered the writer's block question, and then out of curiosity read the other answers--and ours were the same! I also said Lord of the Rings (and the silmarillion, and the hobbit, etc), and mentioned similar reasons, even including the Lament for Boromir. Between that and the fact that your journal title being Irish... I think I like you. :D

Oh, and don't forget The Children of Hurin. That one knocked my eyes out... I couldn't believe that Tolkien addressed that issue with such boldness.

And thanks for the compliment, I've friended you.

Ah. I've seen in your entry that you did not forget The Children of Hurin!

Offhand, the only books I've read more than once since early childhood were Years 2-4 of the Harry Potter series -- the second time aloud to my mom to make it more fun for both of us.

Truly, my visual memory is such that I rarely care to revisit anything. I rarely watch a movie twice, and I haven't taken any photos in more than a decade.

Is that a blessing or a curse?

Usually a blessing, but sometimes people dislike my disinterest in a second viewing or my lack of photography.

Not sure if I could read a book over and over again, unless it happens to be a programmer's reference, of course...

That said, I have reread several of my Redwall books in addition to The Phantom Tollbooth, and an occasional reread of The Lord of The Rings.

On the whole, I don't actually have much call to read books any more.

Especially fiction.
I have some amount of reason to read non-fiction, especially for reference material, but I don't have any favourite fiction authors that are currently publishing.
(at least, I don't think there have been any new Redwalls out recently...)
