Marathon Man

I can no longer run - my knees gave out when I was in my late 30's, both from wearing bad shoes and running with an equine stride. But I love to walk.

I've decided to train myself up to be able to walk a marathon, so I've been increasing my walks up the canyon commensurately. It helps to be semi-retired so I can take the time when I want to.

Monday I walked 12.6, today it was 15.5. I'm feeling good about it - I don't think it will take me long to work up to a full 26.2. As long as I use the elastic knee braces, I seem to do OK.

My route is planned out:

But I need to do some scouting first, and make sure the route is completely passable, because there's some terrain that has no real roads and sometimes transitioning from the high hills to developed areas, one encounters fences.

Don't know if I'll make it before winter, but if not, there's always the valley to keep training with.
